MY ETHICS CODE
INTEGRITY
Acting with integrity is a crucial part to being a journalist. It is our responsibility to report accurate information without taking any short cuts. Besides the work of a journalist, it is important to be truthful to others and act within our conscience.
BENEFICENCE
Acting within self-interest can be a dangerous game, especially if applied towards professional work. It is easy to be nice to people, but the world sometimes forgets that. Throughout my years at Iowa State, I have learned that considering the benefits of another person over my own personal interests results in a better world for all.
EMPATHY
Empathy and beneficence go hand in hand, but empathy is more about understanding where somebody is coming from rather than doing good in the world. By actively listening to someone's problems can provide information about how to help them, and insights on how to help yourself.
FAIRNESS
Everyone deserves to be treated fairly, and given an equal opportunity. Whether it be group members that deserve the same platform, or people being discriminated against, fairness plays a key role. If we all "play the game" fairly, it will make a better world for us and future generations.
